Working mostly as an Actor and Theatre-maker based in Edinburgh, I also enjoy working all over Scotland and at an International level.
Attracted by the improvisational and method style of training at East 15 Acting School in London I successfully auditioned and then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting in 1998 – training under the school founder Maggie Walker.
Theatre is my first love but i can and do work across a variety of mediums and even quite like when they collide. Collaboration is at the heart of what i do, most of the time and I have been collaborating with many different types of artists for almost 15 years.
More recently my collaborative work and research has led me to Danish Site/Human Specific experts Cantabile 2 where i have been making work with them for a ‘Human Specific’ audience in Scotland and Denmark since 2010.
Since graduating I continue to learn about my craft and chosen industry with my work so far taking me to perform throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Slovakia and Copenhagen with Cantabile 2 in their Human Specific works ‘seek to seek’ and ‘Venus Labyrinten’ as part of the ‘My World Images Festival‘ and to the IETM 2012 Meeting (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts).
I have also been making my own theatre projects for 8 years and so far have been lucky enough to work mostly as an Actor, Deviser and a Collaborator but I’ve also assisted as a Director been a Stage Manager, Designer, Producer, Teacher, Tutor, Workshop Leader and Drama out-reach worker.
I am particularly interested and open to all possibilities of the theatre making process, forever curious about the live aspect I strive to find new ways to engage with my audience. Music plays a vital role in my creative process and I am very inspired by the space that I work in and with what is around me. I also feel especially sensitive to an atmosphere and what it can suggest and believe strongly that exciting theatre can happen anywhere; be it a toilet, a derelict space, a castle or a theatre.
Unsure of the kind of artist I was or could be when I graduated from Drama School I was at least sure that I was ready to leave and that I was hungry to begin my journey…
I see my work as my dream job and though daring to dream isn’t always an easy option, I have found that no other job comes close.
A character actor first and foremost I relish the challenge of researching closely other characters, accents, behaviours, movements, gestures, time periods and jobs and I aspire to always be a brave, passionate and truthful actor.
I also have a Business qualification and have worked in both Public and Private sectors. I have found myself in business environments as varied as the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Government, Forensics within the Scottish Police, a Government Public Inquiry, Finance, Energy and Conservation and Human Resources…
