K
K was a chilling and unsettling company devised piece of physical vaudevillian theatre. The Director Stuart Murdoch’s concept for the work was inspired by Franz Kafkas – the Castle and Todd Browning’s film – Freaks.
I was a deviser and performer in the work and along with the director and two other actors we spent five weeks creating the end result that premiered at the Arches Theatre Festival in Glasgow in April 2006. The work also transferred to the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh for a week long run in May of the same year.
Being directed by an experienced devising theatre Director who enjoys mixing new and established theatre conventions with technology we concentrated heavily on atmosphere and style and how to incorporate film into the work during the creative process for K. A very physical approach was also used to create K with very minimal language being used in the end. Music also played a vital part during the rehearsal process and featured heavily in the final work.
