The Venus Labyrinth

Human-specific performance

The Venus Labyrinth is the highly acclaimed Danish installation-performance work originally produced by Cantabile 2 in 2003. It was specially re-created in July 2010 for Conflux’s SURGE Festival at the Arches Theatre in Glasgow by Cantabile 2′s core company and 11 performers based in Scotland.
22 of the 28 instillation rooms were new original works created by the performers in collaboration with Director Nullo Facchini, starting from a true personal memory, an experience, in some cases even a secret.
The spectator enters the Labyrinth alone to find each room containing a sole female performer whose work is related to one of the known 28 areas of the human brain.

I was responsible for creating two rooms for the staging of the Venus Labyrinth in Glasgow. I asked for Sense of Smell and along with it was given Balance.

Such a personal creative rehearsal process and performance experience is difficult to explain.
“A human-specific performance relates to its spectators as individuals and not as a mass so every person buying a ticket is looked at, touched, talked directly to and engages in a personal meeting with the performer to create a very unique experience”
To the spectators who were brave enough to come along to see The Venus Labyrinth and those who selected my rooms; I will never forget our time together!

The performance was sponsored by the Danish Arts Council Committee for the Performing Arts and supported by the community of Vordingborg.
